Dwarf Rotala, often sold as Pink Rotala, is one of the most popular and beginner-friendly stem plants available. Its thin, flexible stems are lined with small, rounded leaves. While it's green in most tanks, it has the special ability to turn beautiful shades of pink and red under brighter aquarium lights, making it a colorful addition. Because it can grow quite tall, it's best planted in the back of your aquarium to create a lush, dense background. You plant it by simply pushing the bottom of the stems into your sand or gravel. Don't worry if you don't have a high-tech setup; this plant is very forgiving and doesn't require extra CO2 to survive, although it will grow faster and more vibrantly with it. It's a fast-growing plant, so it will need to be trimmed every few weeks to keep it from taking over the tank. The good news is that every piece you trim can be replanted to grow a new plant! A major benefit of 'Dwarf Rotala' is that it's great at cleaning your water. It pulls waste products like nitrate out of the water to use as food, which helps keep your fish healthy and can reduce algae growth.
