The Spear Leaf Anubias is a striking aquatic plant known for its unique, arrowhead-shaped leaves that can grow quite tall, making it a perfect choice for the background of your aquarium. Unlike many other plants, you should not bury its roots in gravel or sand. Instead, it must be attached to a piece of driftwood or a rock. You can use super glue gel or fishing line to secure it until its roots take hold. Once attached, it's very low-maintenance. This plant grows very slowly, so you won't need to trim it often, and it doesn't require bright lighting or special CO2 gas systems to thrive. In fact, it prefers shadier spots in the tank. Its tough, leathery leaves make it an excellent option for aquariums with fish that tend to nibble on or uproot more delicate plants, such as certain cichlids or even goldfish. While it's relatively hardy and can tolerate a wide range of water conditions found in typical tropical tanks, its 'medium' difficulty rating comes from the critical need to keep its horizontal root-like stem, called a rhizome, above the substrate to prevent it from rotting.
