The Pygmy Corydoras, also known as the Pygmy Catfish, is a tiny and peaceful shoaling fish that brings a lot of activity to a small aquarium. Unlike most catfish that stay exclusively on the bottom, these little creatures are known for their unique behavior of hovering and swimming in the middle of the tank as a coordinated group. To thrive, they must be kept in a group of at least six, though more is always better, as this makes them feel secure and allows their charming personalities to emerge. They are quite small, rarely growing larger than an inch, making them a perfect choice for nano tanks. For a happy Pygmy Cory, you'll want a tank with gentle water flow and a soft, sandy bottom to protect their sensitive whiskers, which they use to search for food. They are omnivores and will happily eat small sinking pellets and other foods that fall to the bottom. While they are peaceful and have a low impact on water quality, they are considered moderately difficult to care for because their small size makes them sensitive to sudden changes in water chemistry. Consistent tank maintenance and stable water conditions are the keys to keeping these delightful little catfish healthy.
