About This Species
The Crystal Red Shrimp, often called CRS, is a stunning dwarf shrimp known for its vibrant red and white bands. Despite its small size, it makes a big impact in a dedicated aquarium. These are not beginner pets; they are quite sensitive and require a well-established tank with very specific and stable water conditions. They prefer cooler, slightly acidic freshwater, unlike many common tropical fish. You'll find them diligently scouring the tank floor, plants, and decorations for food. They are excellent little cleaners, grazing on invisible films of bacteria and algae. Crystal Red Shrimp are social creatures and feel safest in a group, so it's important to keep several of them together. When comfortable, they will be active and constantly foraging. They are very peaceful and won't bother any tank mates, but larger fish might see them as a snack. Their diet is varied, and they enjoy scavenging for tiny pellets, wafers, and decaying plant matter. Because they produce very little waste, they are perfect for smaller, specialized 'nano' tanks. Their beauty is captivating, but their care demands attention to detail to ensure they can thrive and display their best colors.
